Stephen McCabe was born and educated in the United Kingdom. He received a classical training in Stage Design at Wimbledon School of Art, University of Arts London.  After receiving a BA honors first class in Stage Design, he was invited to design the inaugural production of ‘The Prince of Homburg’ at The Royal Exchange Theater Manchester.

The British Arts Council awarded him a grant to bring the musical 'Brian and Viv Have Never had Sex', which he co-wrote and directed, to the Actors Studio in New York.

Thereafter he moved to the US where he has designed over 30 productions for film and television. In 2004 he was nominated for an Art Directors Guild award for Best Production Design for the film ‘Under The Tuscan Sun’ directed by Audrey Wells, and starring Diane Lane.

He is currently production designer on the hit TV series, 'Crazy Ex-girlfriend' on The CW,  He continues to work in architectural design and product design alongside his TV and film projects.
